Now most creatine supplements ask you to have their liquid sherbet a half an hour to 40 mins before a workout. And I guess in some ways the energy provided in the creatine will most definitely give your body good fuel to burn.
however, there might be a need for some carbs to burn along with that if you’re looking for mass, or you might not be a pre-workout supplement kind of person and want to know what you can eat and when to give your body that extra bit of energy so you can bust your gut, but not feel like your gut is going to bust.
Here is a excerpt from the Australian Institute of Sport article on the matter.
The following foods are suitable to eat 3-4 hours before exercise:

crumpets with jam or honey + flavoured milk
·
baked potato + cottage cheese filling + glass of
milk
·
baked beans on toast
·
breakfast cereal with milk
·
bread roll with cheese/meat filling + banana
·
fruit salad with fruit-flavoured yoghurt
·
pasta or rice with a sauce based on low-fat
ingredients (e.g. tomato, vegetables, lean meat)
The following snacks are suitable to eat 1-2 hours before exercise:
·
liquid meal supplement
·
milk shake or fruit smoothie
·
sports bars (check labels for carbohydrate and
protein content)
·
breakfast cereal with milk
·
cereal bars
·
fruit-flavoured yoghurt
·
fruit
The following foods are suitable to eat if there is less than 1 hour before exercise*:
·
sports drink
·
carbohydrate gel
·
cordial
·
sports bars
·
jelly lollies

So this morning I have had two Weetbix with milk an hour and
a half before my predicted workout, and I’m contemplating having my pre-workout
creatine as well…
