MOTORV8 yourself!

OK! No excuses! We are a week into the New Year, so you really have no excuses now NOT to kick start your New Years Revolution (http://ff2f-kdawg.blogspot.com/2011/12/new-years-revolution.html).
So what's it going to be?
 I'm going to give you my advice and tips on 3 different types of goals;
1 - Shed weight
2 - Build mass
3 - Get lean

1. What worked well for me was the right mix of cardio and the correct eating. The best way to shed the pounds is to make sure that energy in is less than energy out. So on the diet side, make sure you are consuming the good foods, cut out the fatty snack and sub in fruits instead IF you feel hungry. Drink plenty of water, don't avoid it! And make a good portion of your weekly exercise CARDIO. Treadmill, jogging, bike riding, group fitness classes, Zumba, light weights HEAPS of reps, boxing! Whatever it takes to make you sweat like a fountain!

2. I have really started to embrace this side of body modification as part of my New Years Revolution! Already I am seeing results. Increase your protein intake as much as you can, and make sure you increase your healthy carbohydrate levels as well. There are some products on the market that provide both the carb’s and the protein. You can also find some that promote even more muscle growth that include BCAA’s. My current work out for muscle growth is www.bodybuilding.com/fun/luis13.htm and this is really starting to show some results. But if you don’t want to go to that extreme or are not quite physically there yet, change your weights routine from medium weight at 15 reps to bigger weights at reps between 6 and 8.

3. This one is great for those who have already done the big thing, but maybe packed on too many fatty kg’s. Or it is great for someone wanting to get into shape to start playing a sport again or just to get lean muscle definition instead of packing on size. Have a 50/50 workout routine of cardio and weights. And when doing weights keep the weights medium stacked, enough to get a burn at 15 or 20 reps but not enough to make you strain on the last set. Also make sure it’s a fully rounded routine incorporating a lot of different exercises each workout. Diet wise, find a ripped protein or a shred protein, these will normally have carb blockers or hunger stoppers in them too. You will want to eat similar to if you were trying to lose kg’s but make sure that the protein stays up there to feed the lean muscles.

If you are struggling to make it to one of these goals and want more tips or advice, feel free to contact me through this blog. Remember I have the advice of 2 personal trainers at my finger tips, ladies and gents.

So what are you waiting for, it won’t be easy, but hey, that’s what this blog…is all about!

Going Nuts!

I hate nuts!
Well that is what I used to think.
Don’t get me wrong, I still loath the hazel and pea kinds. But now I can add 2 nuts to my list of approved.
I already found the pistachio nut to be enjoyable but around Christmas just gone, I stumbled across the fabled almond. This nut is bestowed, in some nutrition circles, as a superfood. Up there with broccoli (which I also LOVE!), containing calcium, protein, all sorts of minerals and even cancer fighting agent.

What a great little nut to have fallen for. It arrived soon after Christmas in the form of a secret santa gift, of which a rather large bag of vanilla nougat with almonds throughout, was given to me. Not to be ungrateful I gave one of the small little treats a try. Completely expecting a nasty nut taste I took a small bite… no nasty taste. Perhaps the vanilla nougat was blocking the nuttiness.

So what should I do, but go to the shops and buy a 1kg bag of these little devils! The game was on, either I liked em, or I waste a whole 1kg bag.

Yum-o! I almost couldn’t stop eating them.

So how lucky was I when my bag of goodies order online rocked up yesterday, a flavour of protein cookie that I had ordered ended up being “CHOC FRUIT AND NUT”! almost 3 weeks ago I would have looked at these cookies and gone, “Nope, I don’t like nuts” and thrown them away. Instead, I hoed into them with much delight.

Hooray and praise for the almond! No better a nut to have found new love for.

Going in Deep

Mmmmmmm, that familiar smell of deep heat. Ahh, so fresh and rootbeer-ish in smell. I still remember a couple of the older chaps coming into the gym smelling like the deep heat, and I thought to myself, “oh to be old and injured” as this was being used for a sore knee. Little did I know that almost a year later I would be using it myself to make training easier.

It started when I would get a slight muscle pain in the lower back near the end of a jog, more so when I had been doing back workouts the day before. So, out came the heat, slapped on the back, felt the soreness melt away and the jog was a treat. So I decided to take this principle further. Now when I’m doing my back and leg work outs at the gym, out comes the deep heat. Calves, thighs, hamstring, lower back. I walk into the joint smelling like an injured sports star, but it allows me to push through the sets.

I will have to try the other cream made by the same group where it cools instead of heats and see how this goes.

So please excuse me if I smell like deep heat next time I pass by

Motivational Music Selection of the Week!

Thought I might do another "of the week". This one will be songs that are ending up in my iPod playlist, and getting me pumped for the pump!
This week it's the Latino king teaming up with the Cuban queball, but more specifically the Jump Smokers remix. See the attached clip...
